Privacy Policy — Itepe
Last updated: September 28, 2026
This privacy policy applies to the Itepe Android app (com.gookkis.itepe), developed and published by Heri Kiswanto ("we"). It explains what data is processed when you use the app, by whom, and what choices you have.
Quick summary
- Itepe is a TOEFL ITP practice app. There is no account, sign-in, or cloud sync.
- Your answers, scores and score history are stored on your device only and are never sent to us or to anyone else.
- The app shows ads through Google AdMob, which as a third party may collect certain data (see below).
- One optional purchase, Pro, is handled entirely by Google Play; we never see your payment details.
- Extra question packs are optional and are downloaded from our server with no account and no user or device identifier.
- There is no analytics SDK, crash reporter, tracker, or other third-party service in the app.
Data we collect
No personal data. We do not request, collect, store, or sell your personal data — including your name, email address, phone number, date of birth, contacts, photos, files, location, or the list of apps installed on your device. The app has no account, and it does not report which screens you open or which buttons you press, to us or to anyone else.
Your practice results are not an exception to that. Your answers are checked on the device, your score is calculated on the device as a practice estimate, and all of it is stored on the device. No path inside the app sends an answer, a score, or your practice history to us or to anyone else.
If you email us. If you write to admin@gookkis.com — including through the app's "Report this question" button — we receive your email address, your message, and the technical details the app fills in for you: the question number, the answer you chose, the app version and your device model. Only you can send that email, and we use it solely to reply and to fix the question. We do not add you to any mailing list.
Apart from ads and purchases through Google, the only network traffic the app makes is for downloading optional question packs, described below. The built-in questions, practice, results and analysis all work without a connection.
Data stored on your device
To do its job, the app stores a small amount of data locally in your device's internal storage:
- your answers, scores and score history;
- your accuracy per skill, which the app uses to suggest what to study next;
- your settings: theme, app language, and whether the daily reminder is on and at what time;
- any optional question packs you have downloaded;
- your credit balance, and whether you own Pro — a copy kept so the app knows it without asking Google Play on every launch;
- the state of rewards from rewarded ads, such as bonus credits or an ad-free break in progress;
- a flag recording that you have been through the intro screens;
- a simple counter that decides when the app offers to ask for a review.
This data:
- is never sent to us or to anyone else;
- may be included in your account's Google backup (Android Backup) if app backup is enabled on your device — that backup is managed by Google and accessible only to your account;
- is removed entirely when you clear the app's data or uninstall the app.
Third-party advertising (Google AdMob)
The app is free and funded by ads (banner, interstitial and rewarded) served through Google AdMob, a service of Google LLC. To serve and measure ads, Google as a third-party provider may collect and process data from your device, including:
- the Advertising ID (AAID) — an advertising identifier you can reset at any time;
- the IP address and the coarse location derived from it;
- device information such as model, operating system version and language;
- ad interactions such as which ads were shown, viewed or clicked.
That data is collected directly by Google, not by us, and is subject to the Google Privacy Policy. A more detailed explanation is available in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services. We do not receive this data ourselves and cannot identify you from it. The ad SDK receives none of your answers, scores or practice history.
For users in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, the app shows Google's consent form (User Messaging Platform) before any personalised ad loads. Your choice there decides whether Google may serve personalised ads, and you can change it again from Settings › Privacy options inside the app.
Watching a rewarded ad is always your choice: the app offers it in exchange for a bonus, and nothing happens if you decline.
Purchases (Google Play Billing)
Itepe offers optional in-app purchases through Google Play: Pro (one-time: no ads and no credit limits) and paid question packs, bought one at a time. Google Play handles the payment: we never see your card, bank or wallet details, your name or your email address. The app only receives confirmation from Google Play of what you own. Pro status stays on your device and is sent nowhere; for paid question packs, see the next section. Payments, refunds and purchase history are covered by the Google Play Terms of Service and the Google Privacy Policy.
Optional question packs (Itepe server)
Everything needed to use Itepe ships inside the app. You can download extra question packs from our server at itepe.gookkis.com; the list of packs is fetched from https://itepe.gookkis.com/v1/packs. This is the only feature, besides ads, that needs an internet connection.
- A download request carries no account, no user identifier and no device identifier.
- Paid packs: when you download a pack you bought, the app includes the Google Play purchase token. Our server passes that token to the Google Play Developer API only to confirm the pack was paid for and not refunded, and keeps valid tokens so a re-download does not need checking again. The token holds no name, email or payment details and is used for nothing else.
- Requests are signed with a key built into the app. That key identifies the app, not you — every copy of Itepe uses the same key.
- Like any web server, the server receives your IP address when a request arrives.
- If you never download a pack, the app never contacts this server.
App permissions
Permissions the app requests directly:
android.permission.INTERNET— loading ads and downloading optional question packs.com.google.android.gms.permission.AD_ID— access to the Advertising ID for advertising purposes.android.permission.POST_NOTIFICATIONS— showing the daily study reminder, only if you switch it on.android.permission.RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED— setting the reminder schedule again after the device restarts, because Android clears scheduled alarms when the device powers off.
The following permissions are added automatically by the libraries the app uses, and are used only by those libraries:
android.permission.ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE— checking that a connection exists before loading an ad.android.permission.WAKE_LOCKandandroid.permission.FOREGROUND_SERVICE— used by the Google libraries that ship inside the app (the ads SDK and its supporting libraries) for their own background work.android.permission.ACCESS_ADSERVICES_AD_ID,ACCESS_ADSERVICES_ATTRIBUTION,ACCESS_ADSERVICES_TOPICS— the Android Privacy Sandbox advertising APIs on Android 13 and above, added by the Google Mobile Ads SDK.com.android.vending.BILLING— added by the Google Play Billing library for the Pro purchase.
The app requests no storage, camera, microphone, location or contacts permission, and no other sensitive permission. The daily reminder is scheduled by the Android system on your device — no push service, device token or server is involved.
Your choices
- Turning off personalised ads. Open Settings › Google › Ads (or Settings › Privacy › Ads, depending on the device) on your Android device and delete or reset the Advertising ID. Ads will still appear, but they will no longer be personalised. Users in Europe can also change their ad consent choice from Settings › Privacy options inside the app.
- Resetting the Advertising ID. From the same menu, you can reset the advertising identifier at any time.
- Using the app without a connection. The built-in questions, practice and results work fully offline. With no connection, no ads are loaded and no packs are downloaded.
- Not downloading question packs. Extra packs are entirely optional; without a download, the app never contacts our server.
- Turning the reminder off. The daily reminder can be switched off at any time from Settings inside the app, or from Android's notification settings.
- Deleting all your data. Since everything is stored locally, clearing the app's data (Settings › Apps › Itepe › Storage › Clear data) or uninstalling the app permanently removes your whole history and every setting. There is no copy left on our side, because we never received it. Pro ownership is recorded in your Google Play account, so it can be restored after reinstalling the app.
Children's privacy
Itepe is aimed at university students and adults preparing for an English proficiency test, and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided personal data to us, please contact us at the address below.
Security
All connections to the ad network, to Google Play and to the question-pack server use HTTPS. Because the app sends no practice results and no personal data to any server, there is no copy of your data on our side that could leak. Your history and settings live in the app's private space, isolated from other apps by the Android operating system.
Changes to this policy
This privacy policy may be updated from time to time, for example when a feature or a third-party service changes. The latest version is always published on this page with a new update date, and material changes will be noted in the app's release notes.
Not affiliated with ETS
Itepe is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or in any way connected to Educational Testing Service (ETS). TOEFL and TOEFL ITP are registered trademarks of Educational Testing Service. Scores shown in the app are practice estimates calculated on your device and are not official results.
